Weather/Recess
Orland School District 135 follows specific weather guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of students during recess and physical education (PE) activities. These guidelines are based on temperature, wind chill, and heat index measurements.
🌡️ Warm Weather Guidelines

Outdoor Activities Permitted: Students will be outside for recess or PE if the temperature or heat index is below 100°F.

Indoor Activities: If the temperature or heat index reaches 100°F or higher, students will remain indoors for recess or PE.
❄️ Cold Weather Guidelines

Outdoor Activities Permitted: Students will be outside for recess if the temperature or wind chill is 20°F or above.

Indoor Activities: If the temperature or wind chill falls below 20°F, students will remain indoors for recess.
🌧️ Additional Weather Considerations
Recess may also be held indoors if:

It is raining
-
There is excessive mud or ice on the playground

Other unsafe weather conditions exist
In such cases, students may be allowed outside but will be limited to specific areas of the playground to ensure safety
🧥 Parent Reminder
Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. This includes wearing coats, hats, gloves, and other necessary attire during colder months, and light, breathable clothing during warmer months. Proper attire helps keep students comfortable and safe during outdoor activities.
